Craig E. Keitel joined the Auxiliary in 2016 under the eligibility of his father, Edward Keitel who served in the United States Marine Corps in Viet Nam.
While in the Auxiliary, he has served in the following positions: Department Guard July 2024 – present, Department Color Bearer #2 2023-2024, District 2 President Sept 2024 – present, District 2 Sr. Vice President July 2024 – September 2024, District 2 Jr. Vice President 2023-2024, District 2 Conductor 2022-2023, District 2 Legislative Chairman 2023-2024, Putnam County Council President 2022-2023, Mahopac Auxiliary President 2021-2023, Mahopac Auxiliary Sr. Vice President 2023-2024, 2020-2021, Mahopac Auxiliary Jr. Vice President 2019-2020, Mahopac Auxiliary Secretary 2023-2024.
Prior to joining the Auxiliary, he was a member of the Mahopac VFW Men’s Auxiliary and served as the Men’s Auxiliary Treasurer and Secretary.
Craig served in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves from 1989 to 1997 serving as a Dragon Missile Gunner, Assistant to the Company First Sergeant and Company Career Planner. In 1991 his reserve unit was activated and deployed to Camp Pendelton, CA where they were training to be combat replacement troops in support of Operation Desert Storm.
Craig was employed by the Village of Scarsdale Police Department from 1990 to 2011 where he retired as a Police Sergeant. While employed with the police department, in addition to performing patrol duties, he performed the following assignments and details: Field Training Officer, General Topics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Radar Instructor, Traffic Enforcement Squad, Department Reaccreditation Team, and Desk Sergeant.
Craig is also a member of the following professional organizations: Mahopac American Legion, Putnam County Marine Corps League, DAV, AMVETS, Life Member of the VFW National Home for the Children, Fraternal Order of Police, Police Emerald Society of Westchester County, NY Shields, Orange County Shields, NY Police and Fire Retiree Association, NY Police Retiree Association, International Police Association.
