On Monday, September 11^th, 2023, the Mahopac VFW and VFW Auxiliary 5491 conducted the annual 911 Remembrance Ceremony at the Post.  The ceremony started off with the Auxiliary Chaplain offering the opening prayer.  Three children of our Post and Auxiliary Members led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Information regarding the tragic events of that day was read. The forty-one additional names from FDNY members who passed in the last year from 911 illnesses were read by retired FDNY members, followed by the laying of a wreath in memory of all the victims.  The Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial Pipe and Drum Band performed.  The VFW Color Guard were present to render honors.  Food was prepared and served by Auxiliary Members.  The children present were explained the sacrifices made by the victims of the terrorist attack, the importance of continuing to remember them through the 911 Ceremonies each year, and the patriotism shown by the community coming together in support following the worst terrorist attack our nation has ever faced.
