Rosalie Cooper
President -
Rose started out as a Junior Girl when she was 12
years old. She has been an Auxiliary member for 43 years and is a Life Member
of Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. VFW Post 6251 Auxiliary. She joined under the
eligibility of her father, Glenn, a Korean War Veteran. Rose is a Navy Veteran,
serving from December 1981 – August 1986 (Active Duty) and from 1987-1994 (Active
Reserve Duty). She earned Plane Captain of the month for averting three (3)
plane crashes and has degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology and Computer
Science. She also worked in Quality Assurance for several years and taught
Electronics and Computers for one (1) year at ITT Tech.
Rose served as Erie County Council President three times
(2008-2009, 2012-2013, and 2021-2022) and as District Six President, receiving
District President Runner-Up of the Year and first in District Six to obtain
100% in Membership. Rose was installed
as District Six President by her mother, Kay Cooper, a 50+ year member and Past
Erie County Council and Past District Six President. Rose has held four (4) Department
offices – Chaplain, Conductress, Assistant Guard and Patriotic Instructor. She
currently holds the office of Jr. Vice President of the Department of New York. She has held chairmanships on the Auxiliary,
County, District, and Department levels. She was Department Chairman for
Americanism, Veterans and Family Support, Hospital, and Scholarship.
Rose works actively with veterans and volunteers and
participates in events at the Buffalo VAMC. She has volunteered at Buffalo VAMC
for 20+ years. She has served on the Mental Health Council for 11 years;
presiding as chairman for four (4) years. One of Rose’s hobbies is writing
poetry. Her poems have been published in the Veterans Voices magazine several
times. She won first place nationally in the VAMC Creative Arts Contest in
2013. Among her other interests and accomplishments, Rose has coordinated and
taught at the District Six OTI, taught at the Department of New York OTI and at
the Cattaraugus-Allegany County OTI. Rose’s son, Fred Beardsley, is active-duty
Army. She has also been a Blue Star Mother for 12 years. Rose has a grandson, Brantley who is 11
months old and enjoys the time she spends with him.
